Wood and Sterling silver dragonfly hand painted earrings from the Wally and Eva Insect collection.

It took me a long time after moving from NZ (many...many...years ago) to get used to the eye watering amount of sometimes scary creepy crawlies and winged insects that Australia offers to newcomers and locals alike.

But these days I (mostly) love them !

It seemed only fitting that I should design a little insect collection in honour of these gorgeous and planet saving little guys.

About the earrings:

One of our favourite garden heroes, the dragonfly has been hovering around for more than 300 MILLION years (longer than the dinosaurs) so it goes without saying that they've seen some things in their time.

I decided that I'd paint his wings a soft silver to represent their transparency and the bodies are blue (depends on my mood as to which blue but usually a lovely deep royal blue)

Now I hear you say - I have lots of earrings and I say to you - you can NEVER have TOO many earrings !

Even better when they are Australian handmade and being black with metallic gold they are very fancy and the perfect slightly blingy accessory for a night on the town (or on the couch in your jammies - there's no judgement here !).

These earrings are designed, laser cut, hand painted and assembled personally by me in our little studio and workshop (aka converted front bedroom and lovely workshoppy space at the end of our garage) and sometimes (don't tell anyone) I might do some hand painting in front of the telly with a nice chilled glass of Rose, using Australian made blackwood ply, Australian made Sterling silver and non-toxic water-based acrylic paints.
